About this deal

For gamers there’s a bespoke Game Mode to reduce input lag for a faster gaming experience. However, there’s none of the more advanced features such as VRR needed for PS5 and Xbox Series X in case that’s of interest. The TX-55DX600 wears its 55-inch screen handsomely. Its angled-in silver screen frame is exceptionally trim, in keeping with the current fashion, while its centrally fixed stand can be mounted either way round, with its shiny legs straight out, or facing inwards to create an arc in front of the screen. I preferred the straight look – but it’s nice to have the choice. None of these limitations come as much of a surprise given the TX-55DX600B’s affordability, though, and needn’t necessarily stop it being a great value TV. The LZ980 will be available in a new 42in screen size, while the LZ800 shares the same 42in, 48in, 55in and 65in options as the model above it. Only the LZ1000 remains unchanged, with just 55in and 65in screen sizes available. Focusing on the HDMIs, as is all-too necessary these days, the JZ1500B has two that are HDMI 2.1-certifiied. These support 4K@120Hz, VRR and ALLM. There are some limitations, though, in that 4K@120Hz and VRR can’t be used simultaneously, and 4K@120Hz signals of all types are displayed with the vertical resolution halved. That latter issue sounds like a big one, but it makes surprisingly little difference in action, and both limitations are due to be fixed via firmware updates before the end of 2021. It’s worth noting that 4K@120Hz and Dolby Vision can’t currently be used together either, and no fix for that has been announced. Dolby Vision does work at 60Hz, though, and without any of the faff that you have to go through with the Sony A80J and A90J.

Detailed 4K Ultra High Definition picture with the extra colour and brightness of High Dynamic Range JZ980:The last of the 2021 OLEDs, the JZ980, has Panasonic’s standard 4K OLED panel with support for HDR10, HDR10+, HLG and DolbyVision IQ, the brand-new processor, two HDMI 2.1 ports with eARC, VRR, 4K at 120Hz and ALLM, and a 30W sound system.JX850:This LCD model features Panasonic’s HDR Bright Panel Plus with HDR10+, HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision support. Here the chip is downgraded to the HCX AI Processor. It’s hardly frills-free, as it has advanced AI upscaling, Filmmaker mode and HDMI 2.1 next-gen gaming features. Colour Tuner Gamut Mapping Opens colour tuner settings. Set the Colour Tuner as Enabled to adjust the Hue, Colour and Brightness values manually. You can use this option to set the range of colours displayed on your TV screen. When set as On, colours are set according to the source signal. When set as Off, the TV’s maximum colour capacity is used by default (recommended option). Note: This option may not be available depending on the TV model and its features.

Panasonic is keen to push the gaming credentials of its televisions in 2022 and its improved Game Mode Extreme is supported across the whole of the OLED lineup. The various entries all include HDMI 2.1 ports that support key gaming features including 4K@120Hz, High Frame Rate and Variable Refresh Rate. frequencies or amount of data that is being transferred at a time. Higher bandwidth translates into a higher amount of data that can be transferred. Higher bandwidth also means that digital audio signal doesn’t have to be compressed and is much more detailed, rich, and vibrant. When eARC is enabled from the sound menu, TV first tries to establish eARC link. If eARC is supported by the connected device, the output turns into eARC mode and the “eARC” indicator can be observed on the connected device’s OSD.

All of this year’s Panasonic OLEDs use OLED.EX panel technology. This sees the hydrogen elements found in typical OLED displays replaced with deuterium, a heavier compound capable of emitting stronger light.

LZ1000: The LZ1000 uses the same processor as the two models above it but its Master OLED panel is a step down in terms of quality. It has plenty of other things going for it, however, with HDMI 2.1 ports that support next-gen gaming features, Cinema Surround Pro audio, Dolby Atmos and a swivelling stand.
