I wanted to get started with a pedal board. I watched all kinds of YouTube videos and blog posts about which pedals to get first and what pedals EVERY BASS PLAYER NEEDS to the point that I had overloaded myself with information and wound up just buying a tuning pedal and later a compressor pedal. One of the standout features of the B2 FOUR is Zoom's innovative Multi-Layer IR technology. This technology replicates the iconic tonal characteristics of playing through classic amps and cabinets. Its impulse responses are captured from cabinets at three different levels, and it's all activated based on your bass's volume level. You'll be amazed at the sound you can achieve with this cutting-edge technology. Features If the effect processing power is being exceeded, “PROCESS OVERFLOW” will appear on the display. When “PROCESS OVERFLOW” appears for an effect, it will be bypassed. (→ Note about the number of effects in patch memories) Eventually, after connecting the iOS app to it, I was able start getting a better idea of how it’s put together. I eventually found a few presets where I really liked the sound and, with the app, moved them to the beginning of the list for easier access. Today I went through all 250 presets and was very impressed. They sounded great and spanned lots of sounds and genres and most were very usable. It's fairly intuitive and if I have one complaint it's that the manual is pretty sparse and basic but has all the information you absolutely need. My first impression is that there are tons of great emulations and a huge variety of ways to run it. I'd be surprised if you couldn't find many sounds you like and cover anything you would want.

Effects & Presets Following on from the recent release of the G2 Four and G2X Four units, Zoom have announced the upcoming launch of the B2 Four, a multi-effects and amp simulator pedal designed specifically for bassists that combines features derived from their flagship B6 processor ( reviewed in the August 2022 issue of SOS) with their latest Multi-Layer IR modelling technology. Amp Simulation Patch memories store effects and amps used, effect on/off states and parameter setting values, allowing easy recall. Effects are saved and recalled in units of patch memories. Up to 5 effects can be added to a patch memory, and up to 300 patch memories can be stored. Effect type If your pedal chain has more than three options and you will be activating and deactivating various pedals throughout the performance, I can see it being a pain. Easier to swap between presets than to activate and deactivate stuff. Haven't really run into that myself but as I've been messing around it's been on my mind.

For intermediate and advanced players, there might be some who think, “My main board is large and cumbersome to carry, so I don’t want to add more gear for light rehearsals or practice sessions.” Despite its compact size that fits in a case, the B2 FOUR offers sound quality equivalent to higher-end models, making it fully capable for rehearsals.Eventually, after connecting the iOS app to it, I was able start getting a better idea of how it's put together. Category The expression pedal, which is used for volume pedal and wah operations, is not equipped. You’ll need to connect a separately sold pedal. Considering that few players use it, and to reduce costs and maintain a compact size, it’s understandable.
